Our Core Design
The vision of CoreChair is to offer the world’s healthiest, therapeutic office chair. Paying little mind to convention or tradition, we chose to focus on you, the sitter. Our tech innovation focuses on optimal posture through core stabilization and movement that mobilizes key joints most affected by sitting. We made our seat highly sculpted to relieve pressure points, prevent sliding and deliver comfort. It works in conjunction with the low back, stabilizing the pelvis to optimize your sitting posture, reduce back pain and prevent slumping at your desk. Many of us are actively seeking therapeutic remedies to help reduce our back pain. Prolonged static sitting in traditional chairs (even high end ergonomic chairs) can result in uncomfortable back strain and lack of movement. Invest in your health with an innovative seating solution designed to harmonize your personal movement with your chair.
The CoreChair was inspired by the widespread prevalence of back pain, the negative effects of sedentary lifestyles and the trend toward exercise balls in the office.
The amount of static sitting we do in a day (mealtime, work, driving, couch time) contributes to obesity, disease and back pain, otherwise known as the sitting disease. Alternative solutions, such as exercise balls and standing desks, were introduced in the absence of sound research and provide little opportunity for physical activity or adequate back support. Studies show it’s no better to sit all day than it is to stand all day. Introducing a variety of movement into the workday helps to optimize our health and provide relief from back pain. The design of the CoreChair encourages movement in all directions to 14 degrees; enhancing joint mobilization of the hips, pelvis and spine; increasing blood flow, circulation and calorie expenditure. We hope you’re inspired to move often and sit actively!
A Better Back Rest
80% of the population has experienced back pain in their lifetime and 30% are currently seeking some type of therapeutic intervention. Our low back stabilizes and hugs the top of the back of the pelvis, helping to prevent slumping, optimizing sitting posture and reducing back pain. The low back works in conjunction with the sculpted seat to stabilize the pelvis and create a balanced spine position, reducing the need for a traditional tall back. The absence of a tall back challenges habits that most sitters have adopted. When perched on a traditional office chair with no back support one must over-engage core stabilizing muscles as we struggle to maintain a proper sitting posture. This results in fatigue and bad posture as we assume compromised positions in an effort to find relief. The low back of the CoreChair encourages proper posture and allows for greater movement. Stretch and reach more comfortably in a CoreChair!
Freedom from Armrests
CoreChair users enjoy freedom of movement without armrests. Users can move right into their workstations without the distraction of armrests bumping up against the desk, keeping them from having to stretch their arms forward to reach their keyboards (often causing upper back and neck strain). On conventional office chairs, armrests are often inappropriately adjusted. When set too high, they tend to push the shoulders upward. Not fitted properly they can contribute to nerve impingement in the forearm. When sitting engaged in our active sitting CoreChair, the heel of the hands rest on the work surface and arms are free to move unencumbered by armrests. Armrests add to the sedentary outcome that is hazardous to our health - so we eliminated them!
What good is a high end, ergonomic office chair if you can’t figure out all the levers and settings? We love that our active sitting CoreChair is easy to use with simple, intuitive movements and the ability to select your range of motion. Adjust the height, seat depth and mobility and you’re good to go! You’d never guess there are 48 moving parts inside the patented seating mechanism! Years of engineering, design and research intelligence is efficiently housed within the chair structure – all precisely synchronized to encourage subtle movement and exercise opportunity. Work comfortably and easily on a CoreChair.
Supported by Research
CoreChair users deserve the best. That’s why we included safety, stability and durability as important design criteria. CoreChair has been tested to exceed one million sitting cycles (exceeding industry standard) ensuring a long, dependable life. Ongoing research at esteemed institutions including University of Waterloo, Mayo Clinic and Cornell University (among others) continues to validate the safety and efficacy of the CoreChair.
The design of the CoreChair is intended to provide the opportunity for movement during sitting time. In 2016, we were proud to receive NEAT™ certification. NEAT™ stands for the science of Non Exercise Activity Thermogenesis (the energy we expend on activity we undertake outside of the gym and aside from sleeping or eating) developed by Mayo Clinic. The science of NEAT™ tells us that activity, all activity, is important and has an impact on caloric expenditure and cardiovascular health. Even minimal activity such as pacing, fidgeting or gardening increases one's metabolic rate, and over the course of a day is cumulatively significant.
